4 Reason’s I LOVE Big Bang Theory

So while I was out on my Maternity Leave I discovered the most wonderful thing . . .an endless bond with my son? Well, yes I got that but I along with that I found Big Bang Theory and my life has literally never been the same. Okay, so that might be a little dramatic but I do truly love the show. I had a lot of friends tell me how great it was but had never actually watched it, and now I think it was kind of fate that keep me from tuning in. I discovered Big Bang Theory one night during a marathon nursing session with Eli, and thank goodness there was 3 hours of it on TBS that night!

So why do I love Big Bang Theory? Let us count the way . . . .

4. Soft Kitty

Thanks to Big Bang Theory we now have a sick song! I do honestly think think it helped Eli when his RSV was kind of tough. AND it always gets annoyingly stuck in your head. Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty . . .you know you are singing it. Now lets do it in rounds!!

4. Howard Wolfowitz bringing back the Dickey one color at a time.

Yes my blogging friends I bring to you Howard Wolfowitz and his ever changing dickey. Not only is Howard not a “Dr.” but he may have the most bizarre fashion sense of ANYONE I have ever seen. Yet we must ask ourselves if Howard dressed normally, if the dickey was gone would he be the same?! And the answer is NO! Who else could pull off a dickey underneath a t-shirt?

3. Dr. Sheldon Cooper

Wow, I do not even know where to begin. Ohh Sheldon from the Bazinga to the Will Wheaton rivalry the laughs never stop.

Here are just a few of my favorites . . .

Ball Pit BAZINGA
So ZAZZY!!!
Knock, Knock, Knock . . .
Where are my pants?
Sheldon vs. Will Wheaton
Okay so this could go on forever and know I am leaving out so many great ones. Feel free to share your favorite Sheldon moment.

1. They are OUR PEOPLE!

I told Nick the 1st time we watched the show that those were his people! Okay, truly they are our people.

They love Star Trek . . .

They love Lord of the Rings . . .

They have Halo Night . . .more for Nick than me

They online game . . . Incidentally this is the episode where I  learned what AFK means.

They have entirely to much tech stuff . . .

This could go on forever! So let me end by saying I am so glad it is okay to be nerdy again! Thank you Big Bang Theory for bringing endless laughter to my life!

BOWLING

Well, last Friday we went bowling for the first time in years with some great friends of ours, Emily & Jordan. Despite bowling an 8 in our first game, yes I did say 8, We had a great time! (I am a terrible bowler and I can admit and accept it). Bowling reminded me a of a few of my favorite TV shows and movies from days gone by . . .I know you are thinking can she write one blog WITHOUT a TV reference?! The answer to that is YES, however this blog has to have one Smile

Picture this:

In the year 2000, a New York City lawyer gets divorced and moves back to his home town of Stuckeyville, OH where he buys a bowling.

Remind you of anything? Come on you know you remember. It’s the TV Series Ed that was tragically cancelled in 2004.

image

I loved Ed! I watched it from the very first episode all the way to the end. I loved everything about the show from Phil’s constant hair brain schemes to Ed’s endless pursuit of being a good person and ultimately winning Carol.  Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show one of he key parts of it was the bowling alley that Ed owned, Stuckey Bowl.

image

Everything happened at the bowling alley! Actual bowling of course, Ed’s law practice, parties, and eventually Ed & Carol’s wedding. By the way, I would like to take this time to mention to powers at be that Ed is not on DVD or Blu-ray to be purchased! The world needs this, people are hurting out here and forgetting Ed. Bring Ed back on DVD!!!!

Back to my regular scheduled blog . . .

A big thanks to our friend’s Jordan and Emily for bowling with us, had a FABULOUS time and can not wait to go again. We may never be hard core like that lady that had the towel and rubbed her ball down or that guy who practiced his stance every time before he rolled, but we sure had a lot fun. Maybe if I do the ball rub thing I will bowl better next time? Probably not!

Here are a few pics of our bowling fun:

Great friends!

Next time we go to Stuckey Bowl!!!!!!

Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?!

As we eat, wrap gifts, open gifts, watch movies, listen to our favorite Christmas Song, and spend time with our families it is all to easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas.

In the words of Charlie Brown- “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?!”

And Linus answered:

And that my blog friends is what Christmas is all about, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

So I ask you in the hustle and bustle of this time to stop and honor the true meaning of CHRISTmas. After all it is what it is all about!

MERRY CHRISTMAS CHARLIE BROWN!!

Ohh and MERRY CHRISTMAS to you too! From my blog to you I hope your Christmas is FABULOUS!!!

Day 26- What Do I Think About My Friends

No personally I do feel this was cover pretty well on Day 3 and Day 11. So if you missed those 2 days go back and read them and I think you will find that I LOVE my friends.

But to drive the point home one more time I give you this . . .

What can I really say after that!

Day 17- Someone I Would Like to Switch Lives with for 1 Day and Why

This questions was actually not as hard as I thought it would be. The thing I have always felt I was best in at life was talking, now some might say I am a little to good at it. However, no one could deny that I have the gift to gab. I also love to travel and see new things, stay in nice hotels, eat food, shop, and give my opinion on things. All that being said I think I would have been an excellent travel show host much like, Samantha Brown from the Travel Channel.

image

So I would like to spend one day living in Samantha Brown’s shoes to see if it is really as cool as it seems on TV. I do feel the one downside to having her job/life would be all the time you would have to spend away from family. I would probably have to insist that Nick be able to travel with me and that we invite family along as needed. Who knows maybe Samantha always has family with her?

Samantha call me I’ll be glad to give it a go for a day :)

Day 6 – My Favorite Superhero and Why

My favorite Superhero you ask? Well, I think the meaning of Superhero here is kind of left open to interpretation so I am going to be putting my own unique spin on it.

Now normally when most people think Superhero I believe they think of those wonderful guys and gals that show up in Marvel Comics.  I am going to admit that this was my first thought as well. So if I was picking someone in that fashion it would be (drum roll please) . .  .

IRON MAN

image

Why Iron Man you ask? Well, I think he is “real.” He has a huge ego, is a bit of a smart aleck, and he saves the world in his spare time. Plus the movies really rock!!!

Now for my real favorite superhero. Once again, please remember that was chosen by my own interpretation of superhero. The winner is . . . .

April’s Real Favorite Superhero

HURLEY from LOST

image

Now I know you are sitting there going- Say What? Let me explain.

Okay, first off Hurley was able to see and speak to dead people on the Island, which to me is a legitimate Superhero power. Furthermore, Hurley performed several heroic acts while on the Island. Remember that time he ran the VW bus right though the Others before Jin got shot, that was pretty heroic in my book. Also he ultimately got left in charge of the Island, pretty big job!

Now I know some of you are still not convinced. You are thinking she is having LOST withdrawals and has lost her mind. That might be the case, but let me tell you the final and ultimate reason Hurley is a superhero to me. He never really saw himself as a leader or a hero. He wanted to take care of people and diffuse conflict where he could. That to me is the mark of a true superhero someone who can look out for others and check their own ego. Quite the opposite of Iron Man!

So Here’s to Hugo Hurley Reyes! I just wish there were more real superheroes like him out there.

PS- For all you Losties there is actually a LOST Encyclopedia out now. YAY! I know what is going on my Christmas list.

A Dish Inspired by Star Trek Voyager

Invasion of the super nerd- I have cooked a dished entirely inspired by an episode of Star Trek Voyager. Does this make me truly crazed Trekie? Ummmm . . .maybe but if it does I am certainly okay with that! Now I know some are you are wondering what on earth I could have cooked, and before you ask NO it was not Klingon Blood Wine! I also know that there is another part of you asking- What in the world is Star Trek Voyager?! So lets start there.

Star Trek Voyager was the last GOOD Star Trek series, and I put a large emphasis on GOOD. Don’t even bring that Enterprise show up, some things are just better to be forgotten. Here is a brief synopsis of Voyager via Wikipedia:

Star Trek: Voyager (also referred to as ST:VOY or ST:VGR) is a science fiction television series set in the Star Trek universe. The show was created by Rick Berman, Michael Piller, and Jeri Taylor and is the fifth incarnation of Star Trek, which began with the 1960s series Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry. It was produced for seven seasons, from 1995 to 2001, and is the only Star Trek series with a female captain, Kathryn Janeway, as a lead character. It ran on UPN, making it the first Star Trek series to air on a major network since the original series which aired on NBC. It was the only TV show on UPN to have seven seasons, making it the network's longest running show.

Set in the 24th century from the year 2371 through 2378, the series follows the adventures of the Starfleet vessel USS Voyager, which becomes stranded in the Delta Quadrant 70,000 light-years from Earth while pursuing a renegade Maquis ship.[1] Both ships' crews merge aboard Voyager to make the estimated 75-year journey home.[2]

For a full synopsis click here.

Okay, so now that you are thoroughly convinced that I am a SUPER TREKIE let me tell you what I made (drum roll please) . . . . Banana Nut Pancakes!!!

During one pivotal episode of Voyager, well actually I don’t know how pivotal this particular episode was but for purposes of the blog it makes it sound more dramatic. So during the pivotal episode B’lana, the half Klingon-half human Chief of Engineering, is feeling particularly angry, which is not unusually. This chick is always mad about something! But this time she over comes her anger and at the end replicates her childhood favorite Banana Pancakes.

Here is the episode I was telling you about, you have to fast forward to the end to see the infamous Banana Pancakes.

So that Nick and I could also overcome our Klingon anger issues I decided we needed some of our own Banana Panckaes. I searched one of my favorite web-sites Allrecipes until I found a good looking recipe for Banana Nut Pancakes <----click here for recipe or read below:

Banana Nut Pancakes

Ingredients
  • 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup whipped topping
  • 1 cup pancake mix
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Directions
  1. In a small mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Mix in whipped topping (mixture will be stiff); set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine pancake mix and sugar. Beat egg, milk and oil; add to pancake mix and mix well. Fold in banana and pecans. Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto a lightly greased hot griddle; turn when bubbles form on top of pancakes. Cook until second side is golden brown. Serve with cream topping.

In order to save calories I did not make the cream topping, although I do think it would be really yummy. Even without the cream topping the pancakes were FABULOUS! Very easy to make and absolutely delicious. One thing I will have to say is that they were not the most attractive pancakes I ever made. They all came out looking like large wrinkly prunes, which I think had something to do with my pancake flipping technique. Wrinkled or not that were still good!

Having a bad day? Need to over come the Klingon in you? Whip up a nice stack of Banana Nut Pancakes I am sure it will cure whatever ails you!

LOST- A few thoughts before the Finale

Well, the time has finally come, we are less than 24 hours away from the big series finale of Lost. I thought I would share a few thoughts before the Finale.

***Please note that this blog post is not intended to contain spoilers. I am going to talk about some of my favorite moments from Lost. So if you have never seen Lost before or if you have not seen every season or every episode AND you want to then you might consider this blog post to have spoilers!  You have been warned!****

As I have mentioned in a previous post I have been with Lost for every episode of this amazing 6 year run. I am extremely excited about tomorrow nights finale, but I am also a little sad.  I am going to miss a lot of these characters. Thus, it is time for a little reminiscing . . .

Favorite Characters

It is really tough for me to just pick one as it is impossible not to become vested in all the characters in some way, but there are a few I am always rooting for:

SAWYER- Who can truly resist Sawyer?! Looks aside he gets some of the best one liners on the show, and I absolutely love all the nick names! He can call me Freckles any day! I also like all the many different sides to his character his a tough guy/ con man but I think there is a actually a big softy hiding just beneath the surface.

HURLEY-  I just wanna hug Hurley, seriously I do! He has been in some of my favorite moments in the show. The unlikely hero that always comes through.

ROSE & BERNARD- My favorite love story on the show ( I think)! Just love them!

DESMOND- Where to even begin with Desmond,  his character and story line is so complicated. I always know when it is Desmond night something good and weird is going to happen, and I LOVE IT!!

Okay, I actually have a funny story to share about Desmond that is non-Lost related. A few years ago at the church we were attending at the time we watched a few exerts from the video The Gospel of John. None other that Desmond or Henry Ian Cusick as he is known to the acting world, played Jesus. Don’t believe me, check this out . . .

Naturally,  when  Desmond popped up on Sunday morning I almost lost it! Brings new meaning to “See ya in another life Brotha . .”

Favorite Moments

I have to many favorite moments to list from funny ones, sad ones, to OMG I can not believe that just happened. Here are a few of my favs:

As the Hatch Blows up John utters these words

You think John!?

Here is another great one where we learn that Bernard is not Rambo!

Sad but VERY Memorable one here . . .Not Penny’s Boat!

Another classic when Hurley beats up Sawyer . . .

How could we ever leave out The Constant

This is a long one but one of my favs! My favorite quote is a few minutes in on this clip, “Lets look death in the face and say whatever man!”

I am going to stop there because this truly could go on forever! Lost has so many wonderful moments!

I also wanted to share with all you devoted crazy  Losties a great place to get Lost paraphaellia. You know we are going to need some kind of t-shirt when this all over right?! Well, I found some really cool ones at CafePress. They have all things Lost here, it is truly great! I will personally be ordering the one that has all the nicknames that Sawyer used for people!

Thanks for indulging me in this little walk down Lost memory lane, and feel free to join me. I would love to hear from you about your favorite moment/scene/quote/character! Us Losties have got to stick together because after tomorrow night all we have left is each other and a bunch of DVD’s.

Lets get ready for the FINALE! I know it is going to be AWESOME!

PS- If it all turns out to be a dream I am coming through the TV, SERIOUSLY!!!!!

Site of the Week- The Fuselage

First and for most I would like to apologize on behalf of the “Site of the Week” for not posting last week. Due to my trip to Nashville the post just did not happen. I do sincerely apologize but I can not promise it will not ever happen again.

Now without further ado I bring you this weeks Site of the Week . . .

The Fuselage

This sight is dedicated to a show near and dear to me . . .you guessed it . . .LOST! For those you who did not know I am a total LOST fanatic. I have been watching the show since the beginning, I have all the episodes on DVD, and I am DVRing the current season so I can watch it again before it comes out on DVD.  Sadly, this is the final season of my favorite show,if you wanna get technical as of today there are only 9 new episodes left. I am excited about seeing how it all ends up but sad that it will be over.

Now for those you who are Losties like me you know how much fun it can be to swap theories and discuss episodes and characters, but often it is hard to find a fellow Lostie when you really need them. That is where The Fuselage comes in! The Fuselage was started by the Lost creative team and features a ton of threaded message boards where Lost fanatics can get together and discuss all things Lost!

I am a member of  The Fuselage, however, I have never actually posted anything. I joined so I could become a member of the Spoiler group and access the Spoiler board. I know it’s bad! But I am one of those people that will read the last chapter of a book and then go back and start at the beginning.

I just NEED ANSWERS and sometimes I can not wait! I am refraining from checking out that board right now, I really do not want to know “the end” till it is time.

So whether you need to be spoiled, find a fellow Sawyer fan, or just catch up on some theories I recommend you check out The Fuselage. It will help you get through those tough times between episodes.

Later Losties!!!

We were all brought here for a reason . . . .” –John Locke

Feeling some Love for the Winter Olympics

So every evening for the last week my life has been pretty much consumed with the WINTER OLYMPICS in Vancouver. Now normally I am more a Summer Olympics kind of girl, but I have been pretty into all these cold sports this go around. I even missed the 1st 5 minutes of LOST this week because I was watching some kind of down hill skiing. If you know me this says a lot, I am a die hard Lostie who never misses a moment!

Let me just state the obvious some of these sports look pretty dangerous. I mean some of these people are sliding down these snow covered hills, and ice packed tracks faster than Clark W. Griswold did in that sledding fiasco in Christmas Vacation. How do you ever get the nerve up to make that 1st ski jump?!

That being said I would just like to let everyone know that the only place you will ever find me at a Ski Resort is the SPA.

Me + Skis/Snowboard+Cold/Icy Surface= Broken body parts

I am just to much of a klutz for this kind of stuff. Plus I honestly just do not like to be cold. Call me a priss, call me a coward, call me whatever you want that is just how I am.

In all my Winter Olympic watching my favorite Olympics event thus far has been Snowboarding.

Two words- SHAUN WHITE

This dude is seriously awesome! If you don’t believe me just watch.

Not only is he just an unbelievable snowboarder, but he also has signature hair. It kind of looks like Carrot Top and Robert Plant got together on the same head of hair.

Shaun White- See what I am saying??

I have a great amount of respect for Shaun White and all his fellow Olympic athletes. They all have a passion and drive for there respective sports that is beyond belief. Many have dedicated there entire life to getting to the Olympics and maybe they will never make it to the podium but they will get to compete and represent there country. To me that is what the Olympics are all about! Well that and some really cool opening and closing ceremonies!

With that I must return to NBC and see what I have missed!

USA! USA! USA!

C’mon you know you want to chant it with me!

Copper Boom- An Ode to the Gilmore Girls

So I know for most people the Gilmore Girls series ended in 2007 but for me it finally ended yesterday.  I did not follow Gilmore Girls by conventional means, I watched reruns on ABC Family and Soapnet, I also watched most of the series on DVD and that is how I saw the end. Ironically, it was Nicole, my sister-in law, that got me started on Gilmore Girls and helped me finish. Way back in 2004 when Nick and I were just dating Nicole and I were roomies on a church retreat and spent part of a day napping and watching tv in our room and it was there that Nicole introduced to the fabulousness that is Gilmore Girls. On a side note this one of my favorite Nicole and I memories.  ABCFamily was showing a marathon that conveniently started with the 1st episode of the series. I saw the 1st episode and was ABSOLUELY hooked! I loved the dialogue between Lorelei and Rory, the quirky towns folk in Stars Hollow, and all the plot lines. I continued to keep up with show on ABC Family and eventually got most of the season on DVD. When the show ended in its 7th year in 2007 I had not seen any of the finally 2 seasons. I tried to catch bits and pieces on Soapnet and then finally borrowed Nicole’s deluxe Gilmore Girls DVD set and finished. Thanks to Nicole!

Now since completing the series I have been trying to come up with all  the things I love about Gilmore Girls and there is quite a list. So here we go:

  • STARS HOLLOW! I want to live there! I want to take dance classes at Ms. Patti’s, take part in all the quirky festivals, get mad at Taylor at a Town Meeting, drink coffee at Luke’s, stay at the Dragon Fly, walk through the square, visit Mrs.. Kim’s shop, and this list could go on FOREVER!!!
  • THE CLOTHES! I love the stuff that Rory and Lorelei wear. They always seemed stylish but in a not to trendy. During season 6 Lorelei wears this Pink pea coat with brass button that is to DIE FOR! The dress that Rory wore when she jumped of the tower at the 1st Life & Death Brigade out, BEAUTIFUL! The looked good casual, they looked good dressed up, they even made me want the PJ’s they wore!
  • THE CHARACTERS absolutely made the show. Rory and Lorelei were obviously the best but they were surrounded by so many other greats. Sookie & Jackson, Michel, Luke, Kirk, Lane & Zack and the whole band, Mrs.. Kim, Babette and Patti, Kirk, Taylor, Paris, Emily and Richard, and I am sure the list could go own. I would love to meet all these people! I know they are all fictional but so well played and perfect for the show.

I have also attempted to come up with some of my favorite episodes but it has been very difficult. I think I have managed to narrow it down to 3, but there are some many others. Here they are in no particular order:

  • They Shoot Gilmore’s Don’t They” , Season 3. This is the one where they have that crazy Dance Marathon and Lorelei loses to Kirk again.

  • The Lorelais' First Day at Yale", Season 4 Rory starts Yale and Lorelei tries to find a place to hide a mattress.

  • "The Lorelais' First Day at Chilton"- Season 1. Rory stars Chilton on Lorelei’s laundry day.

I have seen all the episodes now and I am left with so many questions. The last season was so random and rushed it, but the last episode was pretty good. I do feel they could have used a little flash forward so we could see how everything ended up. I need CLOSEURE people. Here are my questions, maybe you have the answers:

  • Does Hip Alien ever get back together
  • Does Mrs.. Kim have a 1st name and what happened to her husband?
  • Did Sookie and Jackson have a boy or a girl?
  • Did April ever come back to Star’s Hollow?
  • Did Paris make it through medical school? (Okay we know she did.) But did she and Doyle get married? How’s her bed side manner?
  • Did Rory become a big time reporter?
  • Are Luke and Lorelei married?
  • Did Michel get another dog?
  • Did Kirk and Lulu get married? And does he still live with his mother?
  • Did Lane and Zack have any more kids? Did Brian become there official manny?

I need answers! but sadly I don’t think we will ever know :(

Okay, all you Gilmore girl junkies I shared my favorites with you and now it is your turn. What’s your favorite quote, episode, character . . . etc.  You can even tell me you least favorite.  Tell me anything, we must keep the Gilmore Girls alive!

I leave you with

You know you are singing it out loud right now . . .

Next time The New Years Blog!
