BOWLING

Well, last Friday we went bowling for the first time in years with some great friends of ours, Emily & Jordan. Despite bowling an 8 in our first game, yes I did say 8, We had a great time! (I am a terrible bowler and I can admit and accept it). Bowling reminded me a of a few of my favorite TV shows and movies from days gone by . . .I know you are thinking can she write one blog WITHOUT a TV reference?! The answer to that is YES, however this blog has to have one Smile

Picture this:

In the year 2000, a New York City lawyer gets divorced and moves back to his home town of Stuckeyville, OH where he buys a bowling.

Remind you of anything? Come on you know you remember. It’s the TV Series Ed that was tragically cancelled in 2004.

I loved Ed! I watched it from the very first episode all the way to the end. I loved everything about the show from Phil’s constant hair brain schemes to Ed’s endless pursuit of being a good person and ultimately winning Carol.  Now for those of you that are not familiar with the show one of he key parts of it was the bowling alley that Ed owned, Stuckey Bowl.

Everything happened at the bowling alley! Actual bowling of course, Ed’s law practice, parties, and eventually Ed & Carol’s wedding. By the way, I would like to take this time to mention to powers at be that Ed is not on DVD or Blu-ray to be purchased! The world needs this, people are hurting out here and forgetting Ed. Bring Ed back on DVD!!!!

Back to my regular scheduled blog . . .

A big thanks to our friend’s Jordan and Emily for bowling with us, had a FABULOUS time and can not wait to go again. We may never be hard core like that lady that had the towel and rubbed her ball down or that guy who practiced his stance every time before he rolled, but we sure had a lot fun. Maybe if I do the ball rub thing I will bowl better next time? Probably not!

Here are a few pics of our bowling fun:

Feeling some Love for the Winter Olympics

So every evening for the last week my life has been pretty much consumed with the WINTER OLYMPICS in Vancouver. Now normally I am more a Summer Olympics kind of girl, but I have been pretty into all these cold sports this go around. I even missed the 1st 5 minutes of LOST this week because I was watching some kind of down hill skiing. If you know me this says a lot, I am a die hard Lostie who never misses a moment!

Let me just state the obvious some of these sports look pretty dangerous. I mean some of these people are sliding down these snow covered hills, and ice packed tracks faster than Clark W. Griswold did in that sledding fiasco in Christmas Vacation. How do you ever get the nerve up to make that 1st ski jump?!

That being said I would just like to let everyone know that the only place you will ever find me at a Ski Resort is the SPA.

Me + Skis/Snowboard+Cold/Icy Surface= Broken body parts

I am just to much of a klutz for this kind of stuff. Plus I honestly just do not like to be cold. Call me a priss, call me a coward, call me whatever you want that is just how I am.

In all my Winter Olympic watching my favorite Olympics event thus far has been Snowboarding.

Two words- SHAUN WHITE

This dude is seriously awesome! If you don’t believe me just watch.

Not only is he just an unbelievable snowboarder, but he also has signature hair. It kind of looks like Carrot Top and Robert Plant got together on the same head of hair.

Shaun White- See what I am saying??

I have a great amount of respect for Shaun White and all his fellow Olympic athletes. They all have a passion and drive for there respective sports that is beyond belief. Many have dedicated there entire life to getting to the Olympics and maybe they will never make it to the podium but they will get to compete and represent there country. To me that is what the Olympics are all about! Well that and some really cool opening and closing ceremonies!

With that I must return to NBC and see what I have missed!

USA! USA! USA!

C’mon you know you want to chant it with me!

The snow is gone & so is LANE KIFFIN!!!

Praise the LORD the snow is gone! We did get our little “mini” heat wave this week, which was FABULOUS and the snow melted! I can see my yard and driveway again!!!

This week we also got to say a big Good- Bye, good riddance  to UT Head Football Coach Lane Kiffin or as some have been affectionately calling him, Lame Kitten. Now I know that this story has been totally played out in the media and will be blogged about by EVERYONE! However, since my bloods runs orange and white I feel that I need to get my 2 cents in there, so here goes!

Well, the news broke for me via a Facebook status on Tuesday night. A good friend and fellow UT faithful posted that Kiffin had jumped ship to USC to replace Pete Carroll who is going to give the NFL a go in Seattle (in an effort to keep the blog from being censoredI will not give you the exact wording). Well, needless to say I felt mad, sad, and most of all BETRAYED all at once. I never was a huge Kiffin fan, he always seemed to be a bit full of himself, however since he was the Coach of my Vols I had tried my best to support and believe in him. In return he totally runs out on us before SIGNING DAY. VERY BAD!   I totally understood the riots (see video below) that happened at UT that night, they couldn’t hit Kiffin so they had to burn a mattress!

On a side note-1.  How did they ever have time to put this montage together? 2. If you burn your mattress do they give you another one?

So after the news broke there was the long wait for the Kiffin press conference where Bless His Heart, he thanked us all generically.

Before we leave the Kiffin incident totally behind us I would just like to clear up one statement that Kiffin made during his USC press conference

NO we are not upset because you did such a great job! We are upset because you left 3 weeks BEFORE SIGNING DAY!!! Pardon my rant I just had to clear that up.

As a friend of mine said “He was a jerk when he came and he was a jerk when left” and I would have to say that I agree. I would like to personally say a generic thank you to Lane Kiffin for all the NCAA troubles he left behind. Way to mess up and leave UT to clean it up!!! Good bye Kiffin and please DON’T EVER COME BACK!!!

Now with Kiffin behind us it is time to focus on the future and Mike Hamilton’s search for the next Head Coach. My Dad and I were in daily phone contact discussing rumors, possibles, and news  stories during the long 3 day wait till a new coach was announced. Names were flying everywhere, mostly of people turning it down. 1st Muschamp, the “Coach in Waiting” at Texas, turned it down, and then David Cutcliffe, former UT offensive Coordinator and now head coach at Duke, was apparently very close to a deal but then he withdrew his name. Things were looking pretty dark and we were getting closer and closer to the big recruiting weekend and then out of the darkness emerged . . . .

DEREK DOOLEY

And the Vol Nation said a collective “Who?” Okay, maybe I was the only one who said that, but seriously I had never heard of him. As it turns out he was the Head Coach at LA Tech, son of the famous Georgia Head Coach Vince Dooley and had coached and recruited under Nick Saban (for a complete bio please click here).

In the words of Phil Fulmer:

“The next coach should embrace Tennessee traditions, be mature and have integrity”

I am not sure if Derek Dooley has all these qualities but I could tell from his press conference that he is a man of some class.

Will Derek Dooley be successful at UT? That is hard to say at this point, but I do know that we all will have to give him time and a good chance. The first season out could be rough, especially given the recruiting set back. I do not want UT to become a University that plays musical coaches. So from one VOL to the rest lets all get behind Derek Dooley!!! Lets give him time (more than one season) to build a team and see where we can go.

In conclusion,

Welcome Derek Dooley!

&

GO VOLS!!!!!

We have not even kicked off yet and it has already been an exciting year.
